Harley Davidson Leather Jackets
When my boyfriend first got his bike and Harley Davidson leather jacket, I was extremely dubious. However, as time went on, his enthusiasm for the Bike rubbed off on me. Although, if I am totally honest the main thing that I enjoyed was not accompanying him on the back of the bike or the speed at which we travelled. I quickly became accustomed to many Harley Davidson products, which I now see can be used to decorate the home AS WELL as my wardrobe.
I love the Harley Davidson merchandise so much and as a result my obsession with Harley Davison leather jackets was born. Not only am I merely interested in the buying of these jackets though, to my boyfriend’s disgust. I also love all the history. I love to focus my research mainly on denim and leather motorcycle riding jackets but generally anything to do with vintage motorcycle racing clothing and I am there! Of course I am always on the lookout to purchase new products and so am often found scouring online stores looking to be persuaded by clearance Harley Davidson women leather jackets.
I have researched most of the different jackets that have been used for motorcycle riding between the 1920s and today. My favourite has to be the older styles, such as the awesome jackets from the 1920s-30s where they were aviator or military style. They had a very short mandarin style collar with a button front closure. Apparently the A-1 jacket used before WWII by the Army Air Corps inspired the design. Also used were button front coat styles constructed of thick horsehide. It is thought that the reason that hides were so widely and commonly used in the manufacturing prior to WWII is because the Army Calvary and most of the farmers used so many horses and as a result provided the resulting hides to the clothing industry.
Initially, motorcycle jacket development was monopolised by companies such as Schott, who were most dominant in the 1920s. The Joseph Buegeleisen Co. started to produce motorcycle jackets around fifteen to twenty years later, in the 1940’s. Early periods of manufacturing interest me as it is good to know where the designs being used these days come from. One such company and early jacket retailer is Indian Motorcycles, however they are not among my favourites for they only have one model jacket. This company did actually go bankrupt shortly after producing this model jacket in 1953.
For me Harley Davidson is just the ultimate retailer for motorcycle clothing, purely because their products are suck high quality and has always been since 1910 when they started up. I am just so taken with their Harley Davison leather jackets and I now have seven. I like to ensure that I have all my favourites, for instance the “Cycle Queen”, which for me sums up the style of the 40’s. I also like the fact that these popular Harley Davidson elements often appear on other retailer designs, such as the old design from the 40’s where the jacket incorporated a storage pocket in the rear, which was then accessed by a zippered opening on the left side. As I said before many styles like this were then used by other companies; for instance Blatt and also Grais. If its good enough for Harley Davidson then it’s good enough for everyone!
With Harley-Davidson continuing to launch new seasonal ranges of clothing there is always the option there to look good on and off your motorcycle. The ranges always include functional outerwear for both sexes, so now all I need to find is the kids motorcycle leather clothing range and my family will be set!!

I have a Harley jacket that I have been trying to get info on without any luck. It has a metal Harley Davidson patch over the left breast, there is a patch on the left upper arm that says Harley Davidson & Born to ride-Ride to live with an eagles head in the center.It has cuffs on the bottom of the sleeves that are sweatshirt like with the same banding at the waist of the jacket. There are lots pockets on the outside & inside of the jacket. Here is the the part of the jacket that makes it so unique- it has an orange silk/satin lining with a pic of an eagle soaring with a girl/woman on it’s back and Harley Davidson and Live to ride-Ride to live around them. I do not know the age of the jacket or really anything about it. I have searched everywhere on the internet and in Harley stores in 4 states. Also it has a Harley Davidson Motorclothes -An American Legend tag at he collar. I would love to hear any info you may have on this or any suggestions on where I might look for info. Hi Lisa, I will keep any eye out for you going by the design you mentioned. I do go to many Harley Davidson events and come across a lot of clothing sellers. One advice is to keep and eye on ebay as they often have unique designs coming up.
